DANICA AĆIMOVIĆ, NEW NAMES COME MAINLY FROM THE FACULTY OF DRAMA ARTS
We have reviewed 140 films, we don ' t want to complain, we are just sorry that there were not more better films.
Although I have been working on television for twenty years, I am an advocate of authentic documentary film, and there were few of such films in this year ' s offer. The archive classical films we have placed in the programme “ Panorama ” , as it is really, I think, high time this Festival and of course, our authors with it, take part in the communication with the time and the world. I know that we have caused a lot of dissatisfaction, but that is the way things go when the old habits are changed. Maybe that is so because our authors have not seen what is going on in the world and how imaginative, aesthetical, a documentary film can be, how it is transforming and in what an expansion it is.
The running time of the film was not decisive, but rather it was its aesthetic value. Last year it was defined by the regulations – something that lasts for 80, 90 minutes, can be a problem for someone who makes the programme.
The films, in addition, almost don ' t talk about the situation in our country.
I don ' t know if the authors are afraid of the reality or they had too much of it. The themes from the everyday life were more present in the short feature forms rather than in the documentary ones. I believe it is rather difficult to record these problems concerning the corruption, drug addiction and street violence authentically. Maybe in this phase it is easier to engage the actors to act this. A film – saga about a family sublimes a longer period and is a reflection of something that is a consideration about life, but is not related to the everyday reality. So there were no engaged documentary films. Just in hints, and they are mainly stories from Kosovo, thus again THEMES OF KOSOVO.
There are some new names and it is really encouraging. They are authors with a different film aesthetics, different dramaturgy, different film literacy. They are mainly people form film schools, especially from the faculty of Drama Arts. This is really encouraging.
